Green Wax?

Sticky Bumps is leading the way with their recycled deck pads and environmentally friendly wax. I have already been using the recycled deck pads and they work better then the original!!

Being the first wax company to break away from Paraffin waxes. The Soy based wax that Sticky Bumps designed is meant to work like normal wax...but with the benefit of not being harmful to the environment.

I am super stoked with what Sticky Bumps is doing to make our sport a little greener. That's something we can all be happy about!

My new Noserider

10' x 24.25" x 19.5" x 16.5" x 2 7/8"
Noserider " Jellyphish"

This is a board that Rusty, Hoy Runnels and I have been working on. The board is a Noserider that is its main purpose. It has low entry concave dissolving into a small flat spot which then turns to a slight displacement hull towards the tail with a little flip upwards at the tail block. This creates very little drag while noseriding.

The board has a ton tail rocker which allows the board to flex and counter act the gravity effect, When the tail is pushed down the nose raises (like a Skateboard) It also helps in turning the board not only does my board no seride but it turns like a 9'6... I use a 10" RFC Azul or a 9.5" Isaac Wood Model RFC longrake

Sticky Sticky

I recently picked up a box of Sticky Bumps new wax blends. For the last couple of months, I have been using their base coat with the tour series for my comp boards with the tail pad. For cooler temps, the combo really cant be beat. Just for fun, I use some of the glo wax on my short board and noserider, and found it to work insane! It's a softer, tackier wax that gives you full control during critical situations. Check out all the new blends coming out for 2011 at www.stickybumps.com

PB Summer Classic

Every year I participate in the PB Summer Classic.

Its one of my favorite events and its held at Tourmaline Surf Park in Pacific Beach, CA.

This is the Pacific Beach Surf Clubs annual event to raise money for the club. They had raffle prizes that included a Longboard, a shortboard, skateboards, paintings, t-shirts, and the list goes on.

There is A TON of surfing talent in San Diego, which helps make this event so fun to watch. Every heat I was in was stacked with great surfers.

I was about 8 min late for my SUP heat...I got 4th, and didnt advance. (Im not too bummed) My Local Lineup was filming the event, so I was helping out with interviews and getting footage & pics in between my heats. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to do an interview!

At the end of the day, I wasnt sure how the results were going to turn out,

but I was so stoked to get 1st place!! YES!!!!

Celia did a great job putting together the event.

I cant wait until next year!! Be on the look out for more footage/pics from My Local Lineup!

Doheny Longboard (DLSA)- Old Board Classic June4th

This is one of my favorite contests. (and it gets me ready for the OMBAC old board contest!) Doheny Longboard Surfing Association puts on the yearly Old Board contest at Doheny State Beach.

The drive isnt bad, but the State Park fee will get you everytime. Im seriously considering just getting a year pass... anyway. Oh, what board did I ride?... a BIG thanks goes to Bird at South Coast Surfshops, for letting me ride the 68' Hanson 50/50. This has been my second consecutive year on it, and amazingly enough, that board has helped me bring home several trophies. I was excited to ride this board again.

When we arrived, I wasnt sure the conditions were going to hold up.

Luckly for us, there was AWESOME swell all day! The groms ripped it up on the old boards. Its fun to see them get stoked on old shapes.

I made it through my first heat, then on to the semi-final heat. I was getting warmed up, and that is just an awesome wave to ride an old board on. I made it through and was in the finals!

What a heat! there was some great surfers in the finals heat. There was a total of 6 of us, and all are great surfers! In the end, I was super stoked to take home the win.

Thanks to the DLSA for always making me feel welcome. Your a great Surf Team!!

Cabo story #5- The Arch

The last day of our trip, we took a paddle across a bay to the Arch. It’s the Southern most tip of Cabo San Lucas. We had 3 SUP’s, backpacks and a couple of cameras and set off on a 5 mile (give or take) journey. Along the way we ran into schools and schools of Manta Rays. They were breaching the water and flying like birds. They would then belly flop back into the water. There was over 40 Manta Rays jumping out. We were a bit freaked out that they would breach and flop on top of us or the boards. When we got to the Arch, it was amazing! (Be sure to see the episode on My Local Lineup, I'll share the air dates as soon as I have them. ) The water was crystal clear, but the currants were horrendious. There was a combination of ground swell hitting the cape and making gigantic crossed up ground swells. It make if challenging to but more exciting as well. When we returned, we all agreed that it was the highlight of our trip, and we all just wan to do it again.

Cabo story #4- Most memorable part of the trip

The last day of surfing that we had on the trip, was the most memorable.
Everyday before there was a slight wind and it would always get heavy around 10:30am.

However, the last day the wind stayed off all day!

We spent 10 hours in the water. We surfed everything from SUP to shortboard and all others in between. We surfed until we couldn’t surf anymore.

We headed back to the hotel, ate some dinner, had a few beers....

then went body surfing into the night by means of flood lights off the back of our hotel. It was a great finish to an awesome trip.

Cabo story #3- Cabo in general...

Sucks! If you really want to go to Cabo San Lucas you can get the same thing in TJ. It’s over priced and littered with Disco Tech’s. However, just south of Cabo is Cabo San Jose.

That is the real unaccounted gem of Cabo. The locals are cool, the vibe is relaxed, and everything from Home Depot to Costco is there. 30Min away is the East Cape and it has perfect point breaks and empty beaches for miles and miles.

Within 45min you’ll pass 10 point breaks, and 8-9 A framed beach breaks. The reef kind of sucks, it’s filled with razor sharp sea urchins along with razor clams and jagged rocks.

Aside from the gnarly reef, the wave was surprisingly gentle, with clean lines that averaged 6-8 turns on a shortboard on one wave.

Cabo San Jose, is a place I would love to come back too.

Cabo story #2- On a private Jet to Cabo

Mike Fox, owner of Boardworks, was awesome enough to pile us in his private jet, and head down to Cabo San Lucas. We were doing a trip for Rusty SUP, so there was a lot of equipment.

The plane can fit up to 15 people, but with the 10 RUSTY boards we brought…6 were only allowed, including the 2 pilots.

We left San Diego out of Gillespe field. It was hot and sunny and the surf was flat and blown out. So, I was stoked to go to Cabo where it was sunny and hot, but with head high waves the whole time. The 80 degree water was nice too!

They still allowed us to have Beer on the beach, so that was a real plus!!

Riding in a privet jet is a great way to travel! I would for sure do it again! Thanks again Mike.

Cabo sory #1- The Donkey's

It was our second day in Cabo at Nine Palms. We were getting ready for our morning surf. Then 2 donkeys appeared over the hill and walked down next to us. There was a drinking well nearby and they came to get a drink of water.

The two of them were friendly. We gave it all a laugh and joked about the term SUP donkey.

We were going about out business getting ready for our surf, and a dog decided to come and investigate. The dog was barking and it made the donkeys honk, heehaw and basically freak out for about 3 min while they were running away.

The funny thing was the dog was so small, it was a mini Yorki. Silly Donkey's...

Santa Cruz contest- Memorial weekend.

The 26th Annual Santa Cruz contest at Steamer Lane was this year during Memorial day weekend. If you have never been there, I highly recommend it. We decided to make a road trip out of it, and have some fun.

Leaving San Diego on Friday, we stopped about half-way. that can be a long drive.....
We had to leave our hotel room by 4:45am to make it into Santa Cruz early Saturday morning. I was able to watch the sunrise on the 1 into Santa Cruz, it was colorful! I ended up finding parking by the Surf Museum, and I was so lucky I found that spot.

It was VERY crowded. Not just for the contest, but because of the holiday weekend as well.

The swell, wasnt hitting like I had wanted it too. Being 200lbs, I need to have some push or strength to the wave. It was doable...so I suited up for my first heat. The water was still super cold! and the direction of the wave moved mid-heat. I ended up getting 4th in my first heat, which was good, but only the first 3 advance. So the contest was over for me, but there was still plenty of places to surf before heading back.

We drove around for a bit, the tide was too low to really go out.

There was a few SUP'ers out, but not too many surfing. The conditions just werent there.

After a bitter-sweet meeting with the Aptos jumps, we decided to go back down south in search of a better spot to surf.

The 1 south, was a lot better then taking the 5. The coastal scenary is great to look at! The traffic wasnt too bad either. As long as we were up early to beat the crowd.

As we were driving down through Santa Barbra this wall of fog came in...so we decided to stop at Emma Wood State Beach, and check it out.

The surf didnt look that fun, but it looked better then it did north. So my dad and I went out for a quick surf...that lasted for about 4 hours!! It was so much fun. It wasnt too windy, and we were in a pocket of sunshine. There was fog to the left, right, and way, way outside...

That was the last surf session of the trip. The swell just didnt present itself to us that weekend. We made the last leg of the trip back into San Diego on Monday morning and actually made it through LA in less then an hour and a half! thats record breaking for me.

All in all it was a great trip, I spent time with the family, surfed in a contest, and got to see some amazing things along the way. It was a holiday weekend to remember.
